There is something magical at every Tavarua Island Resort Wedding. The island is surrounded by a horseshoe reef which attracts traveling surfers from around the world. On this day, however, the focus was not on the waves, but on the young couple with a very unique story to tell.
Taylor has a twin brother, an identical twin brother. This isn’t the rarest thing in the world. The anomaly is that Taylor’s twin brother Jared is married to Shea’s sister! That’s right! The twin boys & the sisters have the same inlaws! The romance all began as young teenaged Taylor and Shea were on holiday at the heart-shaped Tavarua Island Resort.

This whimsical coconut palm is the focus of 1,000’s of Instagram posts and serves as a key witness to Taylor and Shea’s Tavarua Island resort wedding. As the years of their marriage pass, so will this palm will keep growing. What a great reminder for when they return to the island again and see its growth.
The Fiji Bure style inspired surfboard racks juxtaposed strongly the carefree nature of the twins and the serious commitment that comes when wearing this suit. The story from the morning was that these two brothers were in the best bait ball of Yellowfin tuna they have ever witnessed. As they told us the story, they were still in shock that it actually happened. 4 lines each hooked up with a 30 kilo or bigger fish! It only added to the specialness of the day and you could see a shift in focus once Taylor buttoned up that suit.
First Look
Shea prepared for the day in the recently added luxury villa at Tavarua Island Resort. Large glass windows let beautiful, warm tropical light fill the modern plantation style villa. Once ready, Shea left the villa down the familiar sand pathways of Tavarua where she would meet Taylor for their “First Look.” First Looks give a great opportunity for couples to have a moment of quiet intimacy before they are surrounded by friends and family. These are usually a couple’s favorite images as you get to see the groom’s face as he lights up seeing his bride for the first time.
I love the bible verse on Shea’s Foot.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God,
Isaiah 43:2
This shot was rather spontaneous as we saw Shea’s dad coming toward us. We told him to come around the corner to see something. How special for a father to see his daughter happy and glowing on her wedding day.
Fireworks topped off what can only be described as a perfect Tavarua Island resort wedding.
We were lucky enough to be in California and shoot their engagement session at the beautiful Joshua Tree National Park. It was nearly freezing that day, so a huge contrast to this warm Fiji wedding. Check out their engagement session HERE
