We are so excited to share our first Joshua Tree Engagement Session from this past December with Taylor and Shea! Lia and I wanted to do this shoot as a, “get to know you,” before their wedding this coming May in Fiji. Taylor is a skipper on a whale watching boat out of his home town of Newport Beach and Shea Lives and works in beautiful San Clemente. This OC couple did not want a typical engagement shoot at the beach and loved the idea of a destination shoot out in the desert. It was a first time for Shea to come to Joshua tree but Taylor had actually done a one day solo mission earlier in the year and loved it. He joked that he couldn’t get Shea to come with him the first time he went up!
We learned a lot on this adventure, most importantly the high desert in December is COLD both day and night! There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the temp was never warmer than 50 in the sun. The wind chill factor brought the median temp to the low 40’s! Lia and I had full snow gear and gloves and still felt the wind cut through our clothes!
For Taylor and Shea the cold was not gonna stop them! Though they felt they were under dressed for the chill, they powered through. The last hour of sunlight Shea changed into a second outfit. A lightweight, red lace skirt and top that looked amazing but provided zero protection from the cold! Though the air was cold, Shea smiled warmly in the arms of her fiance. We all marveled at the beauty of our surroundings as sun dipped below the white boulders of Hidden Valley.
When I look at these images, I don’t see cold. I see young love and great memories from our day together in the desert. See you both in May!
